Parshas Bo continues with the last three of the Ten Makkos. Hashem tells Moshe “Bo”, come to Paraoh again as I have hardened his heart to show My signs and show your future generations what I did to Mitzrayim.
Arbeh – Moshe and Aharon come to Paraoh and warn him that Hashem said “If you don’t let my people go tomorrow then I will bring locusts into your borders.” These locusts will swarm over the entire land and cause it to be darkened so that the land cannot be seen. They will attack and eat all the crops of the field that were not ruined by Barad and fill the Mitzri houses!
The servants pleaded with Paraoh to listen and let the Jews go. Paraoh agrees only to send the men and leave the women and children behind. When Moshe insists that everyone must go including the flocks Paraoh has someone chase Moshe and Aharon out of the palace.
Moshe stretches out his hand over the land and Hashem brings a strong Eastern wind and swarms the locusts into town. They filled the town and attacked all the fruits and trees and greenery. Paraoh calls for Moshe to end the plague and he does. Again, Hashem hardens Paraoh’s heart and he doesn’t let the Jews go.
Choshech – Moshe stretches his hand towards the sky and Hashem brings a thick darkness over the land. For three days nobody could see each other or move around at all from the darkness except for the Jewish people. Paraoh sends for Moshe and says OK YOU CAN GO SERVE HASHEM just leave behind your flocks and cattle. Moshe says Nope. Everything will come with us and not even a horse’s hoof will be left behind. Paraoh throws him out and says never come back to see his face again.
Hashem tells Moshe, I will bring one more plague and then you will go free. But first, go have all the people ask to borrow gold and silver from the Mitzriyim.
Makas Bechoros – Moshe warns that at around midnight, Hashem will come out and kill the bechor, the firstborn of the Mitzriyim and their animals. There will be such a great cry throughout the land and only the Jews won’t have their sons die as no dog will whet it’s tongue to any jew.
The Mitzvah of Rosh Chodesh – Hashem instructs Moshe to set up Rosh Chodesh and shows him what the moon will look like in the beginning of the month.
Karban Pesach – Hashem commands them to prepare the Karban Pesach. Every house should take a lamb on the tenth of the month until the fourteenth of the month and then slaughter it. Smaller households can join together with neighbors. And they need to watch the animals for four days to make sure that there is no blemish. They should take some of the blood and put it onto the door posts. And at night they should eat the meat roasted over the fire along with Matzah and Marror. The meat can only be eaten roasted, not rare or cooked in water. Nothing can be left over until morning, and whatever is left needs to be burned. It needs to be eaten with clothing and shoes on ready to travel with a stick in hand, and must be eaten quickly.
While this is happening, Hashem will pass through the land and kill every bechor/first-born in the land but Hashem will pass over (Hence the name “Passover”) all the houses that have blood on their doorposts.
The Chag of Pesach - And it will become a holy day for you to celebrate. Seven days of eating Matzah and getting rid of Chametz from your midst starting on the 14th of the Month. The Matzah will need to be watched and the laws of Pesach must be kept.
Moshe tells the Zekainim – elders what Hashem commanded to do and all the people did what they were told.
At exactly midnight, there was sudden death of all the firstborns in every house in Mitzrayim and the people were screaming and yelling.
Paraoh in Pajamas in the middle of the night ♩♪♫♬🎼– Paraoh and his servants wake up to the screaming and they’ve had enough. He goes running to Moshe and says get your people out of here!!! Take them all and the animals as you wanted to do and go serve Hashem but bless me that I won’t die! The Mitzriyim tried to rush the Jewish people out too. The people grabbed their Matzahs that had not yet risen and Marror and tied the leftovers up and carried it on their shoulders. They stopped by the Mitzri houses as previously told to do and asked for silver and gold and they were given it. About 600, 000 men plus families travelled to sacrifice to Hashem. The Eruv Rav (Rashi: a mix of nations that converted) went up with them along with their animals. The dough meanwhile baked on their shoulder into flat Matzahs.
The Parsha concludes with Halachos of eating the Karban Pesach and with several Mitzvos relating to Yetzias Mitzrayim. One of which is the mitzvah of Tefillin.
